Mind Mapping

Mind Mapping is one of the most useful skills that can be given to children of all ages!   As a tool for students it is second to none, but it does not just belong to those who are still studying.  Its uses are legion: it can be used for planning,  note-taking, brain dumping, organising, problem solving, self-reflection, shopping lists etc, etc.  Mind Mapping was devised by Tony Buzan long enough ago to have it’s worth proved!

What is a Mind Map?

A Mind Map is a brain-friendly way to get information in and out of your brain.  A Mind Map is made up of all the things both sides of your brain likes: words, lines, order, logic and sequence for the left hand hemisphere and colour, space, size, symbols, fun and imagination for the right.

Here’s one showing the rules of Mind Mapping

Tony Buzan calls it a Secret Formula for getting better grades with less work.  Certainly my own children found it very useful (once the usual initial resistance to  an idea suggested by Mother had been overcome!).  My younger son attributes his A in Science to Mind Mapping!
